Washing the Mattress Protector

Washing Cocoon's mattress protector is easy and straightforward. However, we recommend only washing your protector when necessary to protect the environment. The mattress protector is 100% Oeko-Tex certified, meaning it contains no harmful chemical residues that need to be washed away before use.

We recommend washing the protector at 40 degrees, or a maximum of 60 degrees in case of accidents. Choose a wash program for heavy laundry, as the protector can become heavy when washed, and some washing machines may struggle to spin it. By choosing a longer wool fiber, our wool duvets feel more airy, while also being more breathable and better at regulating temperature. When choosing wool, it is not only important to us that the quality of the merino wool is top-notch, but also that the wool is produced with the animals' welfare in mind. We therefore have a strict policy of only using wool from merino sheep that are free-range, sheared in a proper and fair manner, and not subjected to mulesing.

You might already know the "muslin" fabric from ultra-soft cloth diapers. A 3-layer gauze builds on the same principle but is developed specifically for luxurious bedding. The fabric consists of three thin layers of finely woven cotton, sewn together with small, invisible stitches. This construction is completely unique: The three layers create small air pockets between them, giving the fabric a fantastic, slightly "fluffy" structure that feels softer against the skin than any other cotton you have tried.

The small air pockets between the layers act as a natural temperature regulator, retaining your body heat when it is cool, but cooling when it gets too warm. At the same time, the loose weave ensures that the fabric is extremely breathable. No more waking up bathed in sweat or shivering from cold.

The slightly crinkled structure provides a gentle sensation that soothes the senses and makes the body relax faster. The natural, slightly "waffled" look also means that the bedding does not need ironing. It is supposed to look like that! It gives your bedroom a relaxed, modern, and inviting expression. Here you get our fantastic baby nest with soft corn fiber filling in both the edges and the mattress of the baby nest. We are proud of our cornfiber, which is made from the by-product of corn production. We process the raw material into a light fiber that feels and is as soft as the fiber products you know as polyester filling. But our corn filling has a much cleaner conscience than synthetically produced plastic fibers, which polyester actually is. In the production of corn fibers, much less CO2 is emitted, and the climate footprint is significantly smaller. Additionally, the material is 100% biodegradable and recyclable.

We always strive to do our best when designing new products for our range. And our baby nest is no exception. It was important for us to create a baby nest that is safe and secure for your child to sleep in. Therefore, our baby nest meets all the recommendations in the field.

The mattress of the baby nest is quilted in small squares to create the best possible comfort for your child and to insulate against cold from below. You can therefore comfortably use our corn baby nest for your child when playing on the floor or when your child is exploring the exciting things under a play gym.

What is a mattress protector?
Both adults and children can have accidents in bed, and here the mattress protector is a good discreet solution. Cocoon's mattress protector is placed on top of the mattress and under the regular bed sheet to provide the best comfort for the child. Mattress protectors for larger mattresses are secured with elastics around the corners of the mattress. This way, the protector stays well in place throughout the night. Mattress protectors for smaller mattresses, where the child does not move much, such as in a crib, pram, and carrycot, are without elastics.

The challenge with regular mattress protectors is that the body cannot breathe through the waterproof layer. Many therefore find it not very comfortable to sleep on a mattress protector. In the development of Cocoon's mattress protector, it was crucial that the layer should be breathable and comfortable to lie on. This has been achieved by coating our unique breathable membrane with the finest fabric of 100% untreated cotton flannel. The unique membrane prevents liquid from penetrating to the mattress while allowing the body to breathe through the protector.

Washing the mattress protector
It is easy and simple to wash Cocoon's mattress protector. However, we recommend that you only wash your protector if necessary, to protect the environment. The mattress protector is 100% OEKO-TEX certified, which means that the protector does not contain residues of harmful chemicals that need to be washed away before use.

We recommend washing the protector at 40 degrees, or a maximum of 60 degrees in case of accidents. Preferably choose a wash program for heavy laundry, as the protector can become heavy when washed, and therefore some washing machines may have difficulty spinning the protector. If it has not been possible to spin out the water during the first spin cycle, we recommend an extra spin. Note that the protector can shrink by up to 8-10%.
