WHICH MATTRESS SHOULD YOU CHOOSE FOR YOUR BABY?

In short, you should choose a baby mattress made of chemical-free and hypoallergenic materials for your child. Pay attention to what materials the mattress is filled with and what it is covered with. Breathability in the materials is crucial for your little one's sleep. If you buy a mattress made of artificial and synthetic materials, the body cannot breathe on the material, and your child's sleep will be disturbed by heat and sweat.

SIZE OF BABY MATTRESS

When buying a baby mattress, it is important that the mattress has the same dimensions and size as the baby bed. The mattress should reach all the way to the edges of the bed so that there is no gap where the child can roll down and get stuck.

HOW THICK SHOULD A BABY MATTRESS BE?

The next question that arises is how thick the mattress for your baby should be. The health authorities recommend that a baby mattress is at least 5 cm thick and has a firm filling. A baby mattress should not be soft. So even if your Cocoon baby mattress may feel a bit firm when you receive it, it is exactly as it should be. You can advantageously use one of our chemical-free and breathable kapok mattress pads on top of the baby mattress. It provides a little extra comfort for the child while also helping to protect the baby mattress under the child. 

CAN A BABY MATTRESS BE WASHED?

Now the practical questions begin to arise, as everyday life with the little one in the house brings a lot of extra chores during the day. So it is important that the products you choose for your child are practical and hygienic.

You cannot wash your baby mattress from Cocoon in the washing machine. But it is not necessary either, as it fortunately does not contain any chemicals. So where with other mattresses you need to wash the cover before use due to residual chemicals, you can be completely confident with our baby mattresses. They have never been near pesticides, sprays, synthetic substances, or the like. At Cocoon, you get the pure product - nothing else.

In periods where there is a risk of accidents in the baby bed, either from the diaper or spit-up and drool, we recommend that you use our breathable baby mattress protectors. They can easily be washed in the washing machine at up to 60 degrees, so the baby bed can be quickly and easily put back into use.

CAN YOU REUSE A BABY MATTRESS?

It is not recommended to reuse the baby mattress from the first child for the next, or use the mattress that may have come with a used baby bed. Although in the name of sustainability, it is of course fantastic when things can be passed down or live on with others, it is not smart with the baby mattress.

This is because an old mattress can hide a lot of dust mites and other allergens from the previous home. At the same time, any mattress will shape itself to the child who has slept on it and thus fit that specific child - a bit like footwear. Therefore, some of the comfort is lost by letting your child sleep on a used mattress.

So the conclusion is clear: Buy a new mattress for each child you have.
