Newborns spend most of their time in contact with a duvet, and a good night's sleep is essential for their development and health. Therefore, it's important to ensure that the baby duvet you choose for your child does not contain allergenic substances or harmful chemicals.

At Cocoon Company, we strive to offer your baby the best sleep products on the market. All our baby duvets are both chemical-free and allergy-friendly. No synthetic fibers are added to the duvets, nor are chemicals and pesticides used during production and processing. With us, you get a natural and pure product, whether you choose our kapok, merino wool, silk, or cornfiber duvet. We produce duvets we would like to sleep in ourselves and that we can tuck our children and grandchildren into with a clear conscience.

Which baby duvet should you choose?

At Cocoon Company, we have many years of experience advising parents on choosing the right duvet for their child. Many parents have a personal preference for what makes a good and comfortable duvet, based on their own sleeping experiences.

At Cocoon, we always advocate for choosing a baby duvet made from natural materials, produced with as little environmental impact as possible.

Therefore, we would like to challenge your decision or perhaps even shift your conviction about what the best duvet is. When choosing your child's next duvet, we encourage you to ask yourself these 5 questions:

1. Should the duvet be allergy-friendly?

2. Should the duvet be free from harmful chemicals?

3. Should the duvet be breathable?

4. Should the duvet be temperature-regulating to prevent sudden infant death syndrome?

5. Should the duvet be organic?

If you answer YES to just one of these questions, then a baby duvet from Cocoon in our pure, natural materials is definitely for you.

The time has come for all of us to make greener choices. By choosing from Cocoon's baby duvets, all bearing our green butterfly, you are assured of receiving a top-quality product, produced with care and with as little impact on the planet as possible.

Baby Duvets and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome

One of the most important things you can do to prevent sudden infant death syndrome, according to the Danish Health Authority, is to ensure your child does not get too warm. Therefore, it is crucial to choose a baby duvet that helps your child regulate their temperature. When we are born, the brain center responsible for regulating body temperature is not yet fully developed. While in the womb, the mother provided the right temperature for us. It is only when we come into the world that this center must develop. Children's temperature regulation is not fully functional until they are 3-4 years old, after which they can feel whether they are cold or sweating. Therefore, it is essential to offer the child the best external conditions to regulate heat as effectively as possible.

Sleep is and remains one of the most important factors for our children's health and well-being. With a baby duvet from Cocoon, you give your child the best conditions for a good and safe night's sleep.

What does loft in a baby duvet mean vs. regulation ability?

In down duvets, there is much talk about "loft" or, in other words, the duvet's insulation ability. The higher the loft, the more it insulates. However, at Cocoon Company, we prefer to talk about regulation ability, as it makes much more sense for our duvet to help us regulate heat so we remain dry from sweat throughout the night, rather than having a duvet that insulates heavily, preventing heat from escaping. This can, of course, be very nice if you are cold at night and cannot find rest. In such cases, we recommend one of our wool duvets or cornfiber duvets.

How many baby duvets should you have?

Our best advice, from parent to parent, is to acquire 2 duvets for your baby. The extra duvet becomes your best friend in everyday life with an infant in the house. The duvet often follows your child everywhere, whether you are at home or outside the house. Many parents choose to have one duvet primarily used at home in their own bed and an extra duvet that is taken out of the house. The extra duvet is used in the pram, taken to mother groups, baby rhythmics, and all other places where you have your baby with you.

If an accident occurs and your child's duvet needs washing, it's just super convenient to have an extra one on hand so that the night's sleep can continue as undisturbed as possible.

All new parents can probably agree that the value and amount of sleep suddenly take on a whole new meaning. Every bit counts…

We also recommend looking at our pram duvets. They work really well as the extra duvet you invest in and that the child uses in the pram. A pram duvet is slightly smaller than the baby duvet and therefore doesn't take up as much space around the child in the narrower pram compartment. You can choose a pram duvet in both kapok and wool filling, so there is something for every preference and season.

How long do children sleep with a baby duvet?

The size of a baby duvet in Denmark is 70 x 100cm. The time you need the baby duvet is individual, as it depends on the child's length rather than age. But as a rule of thumb, your child will sleep with the baby duvet from about 0 - 2 years of age or until the child measures around 90cm in length. After that, you switch to a junior duvet measuring 100x140 cm.

Which duvet is best for a baby?

Most expectant parents want to choose an allergy-friendly and chemical-free duvet for their child. So when choosing the right duvet for your child, you should look at what it is made of. It's important that the duvet is made of breathable materials so the child doesn't get too warm. At Cocoon, we believe that there is a lot of care for both people and the environment when we prioritize natural and organic products for ourselves and our children.

Winter duvet for baby Optimal warmth and comfort

When winter's cold sets in, it's important to choose a duvet that can keep your child warm and comfortable all night. At Cocoon Company, we recommend our wool duvets as the best choice for winter use, as they can handle a wide range of temperatures. Wool duvets are ideal both indoors and outdoors, ensuring both breathability and temperature regulation. Wool is a fantastic material used for many clothing and home textiles precisely because of its ability to adapt to temperature and retain warmth.

Our cornfiber duvets are a great alternative, resembling a classic down duvet in warmth. This type of duvet is slightly warmer and provides excellent comfort during the cold months. Cornfiber duvets are also wonderfully soft and perfect for snuggling.

Kapok duvets are all-season duvets and work well in winter, especially for children who tend to be warm. When children sleep in prams, they are often well wrapped up, and kapok duvets are ideal for ensuring they don't overheat. Indoors, kapok duvets also work well, especially if the temperature is stable, helping to avoid overheating.

Silk duvets can be used indoors in winter if the temperature is stable and high, but they are a bit thinner compared to the others. In terms of textiles, silk duvets are still all-season duvets, but they are best suited for mild temperatures.

Allergy-friendly baby duvet

An allergy-friendly baby duvet is the perfect choice for parents who want to give their child the best start in life. At Cocoon Company, we emphasize producing duvets from natural and chemical-free materials that are gentle on your child and ensure a good sleep environment.

What makes a Cocoon Company baby duvet allergy-friendly?

All our duvets are allergy-friendly, as they are each good at preventing dust mite allergies:

  • Kapok: Contains a natural bitter substance that makes it impossible for dust mites to live in the material.
  • Wool: Naturally antibacterial thanks to the lanolin oil, which we retain in our wool duvets. We avoid chemical treatments and chlorine treatments, which are often used to remove the lanolin scent. Our wool may therefore smell a bit more like wool, but this is a guarantee that it is natural and organic.
  • Silk: Contains a protein that naturally repels dust mites and ensures an allergy-friendly sleep environment.
  • Cornfiber: Easy to wash at 60 degrees, effectively removing dust mites and other allergens.

At the same time, none of our materials contain harmful chemicals. This makes our duvets a safe choice for your child.

Baby duvet with kapok

A baby duvet with kapok is an excellent choice for those who want an allergy-friendly, vegan, and organic duvet for their child. Our baby duvets are filled with untreated kapok fibers, and the outer shell is made of GOTS certified cotton of truly sublime quality. A kapok duvet is thus 100% plant-based and is, without comparison, one of the most natural and pure duvets on the market. We often tell our customers that the green butterfly in our logo is the only quality mark needed on a kapok duvet. But beyond that, certificates and stamps are actually redundant, as kapok is the most natural, untreated material you can fill a duvet with that doesn't come from animals. No processing is done it is 100% pure nature.

The smart thing about using kapok in a baby duvet is that it is an incredibly breathable material. In fact, the fibers consist of about 70% air, making the duvet extremely temperature-regulating, constantly adapting to your child's body temperature and maintaining an even temperature under the duvet throughout the night. This ensures that your baby neither gets too hot nor too cold.

You can read much more about kapok as an exceptional material for filling duvets, pillows, and mattresses here.

Is a kapok baby duvet all-season?

A kapok duvet is a cool to warm duvet and can be used all year round. As mentioned, kapok fibers are good at temperature regulation. But if your child is cold and freezes a lot during the winter months, we would instead recommend one of our cornfiber or wool duvets.

How does a kapok baby duvet feel?

When choosing a duvet for our children, it is very individual what we feel is a comfortable duvet. The decision is often based on what we are used to sleeping with. When you choose a kapok duvet for your baby, it initially doesn't feel as flexible and soft as the down or fiber duvet you might sleep with yourself. A kapok duvet is firmer and feels a bit more like a thick quilt at first - but in the right way. Kapok duvets from Cocoon Company are filled with extra kapok filling compared to other kapok duvets because the filling settles and becomes softer after some use. By filling them extra from the start, we have ensured that your baby duvet remains comfortable and has a longer lifespan.

We recommend that you sleep with your child's duvet for some time before birth to help soften the duvet's fibers and make it extra comfortable before the baby arrives. Additionally, your child will find extra comfort in the duvet when it smells of mom and dad. So it's a win-win to snuggle with the baby duvet before birth and look forward to the new arrival who will soon sleep in the duvet.

How to wash a baby duvet with kapok?

A kapok baby duvet is very easy to wash and maintain. Due to the natural bitterness in the fibers, bacteria and dust mites cannot survive in the duvet. At the same time, the organic kapok duvets are some of the cleanest you can find on the market. There are no excess chemicals or dyes that need to be washed out first. Therefore, washing your kapok baby duvet is not necessary before use. Instead, hang the duvet out to air for a day.

If major accidents occur on the duvet and washing cannot be avoided, you can wash our kapok duvets at up to 60 degrees and then tumble dry them thoroughly. Try weighing the duvet before washing so you know if all the water has come out. If the duvet weighs too much after tumble drying, even when it feels dry on the outside, it needs more time.

We recommend that you, as far as possible, spot clean the duvet as needed and not wash the entire duvet if it can be avoided. Additionally, washing at 40 degrees is a more gentle choice, both for the duvet's lifespan and for the environment.

Always follow our general recommendations for washing and maintenance, which you can find here.

Baby duvets with wool

A baby duvet in our soft merino wool provides your child with a natural and soft duvet, with all the good properties you know from wool. Our wool duvets are uniquely made from the longest wool fibers from the sheep. After carding, the long fibers give us a softer and much more airy wool for our duvets.

A wool duvet is for all-year use, but Cocoon wool duvets for babies are available in 3 different thicknesses. This is because children are just as different as adults, and some children need a little extra warmth from outside to keep their body temperature even throughout the night. While other children sweat and need more air. Therefore, there is a "light, medium, and heavy" thickness baby duvet in wool. All wool duvets have the natural properties of wool and are breathable and temperature-regulating.

Baby duvets with silk

Our Mulberry Peace silk duvets are the world's first series of baby duvets in animal-friendly silk. Our silk is not produced in the traditional way, where silk larvae are killed to extract the silk. Mulberry silk, or in Danish mulberry silk, is the world's finest silk produced in harmony with nature, where the silk larvae are allowed to live on and eventually hatch into silk butterflies and reproduce.

Our baby duvets in silk are filled with pure, organic mulberry silk and have an outer shell of 100% organic GOTS-certified cotton. The silk is naturally breathable and has an incredibly airy structure. Dust mites and mold cannot survive in this environment, making a silk baby duvet highly suitable for children with allergies and asthma.

The silk fibers are very thin and fine. This leaves a soft and flexible baby duvet. A true luxury duvet of the finest quality, which can be used all year round for your child. A silk duvet feels thinner than other duvets and is often referred to as a summer duvet. But you can certainly use your silk baby duvet all year round. The hollow, airy structure of the silk fiber means that it constantly adapts to the surrounding temperature, creating a temperature-regulating effect around the child's body when sleeping. So whether the child tends to be cold or sweat at night, a silk duvet will always adapt to your child's needs.

Baby duvets with cornfiber

At Cocoon, we are proud to present you with a wide range of different baby duvets. We have an offer for every need and desire, but what they all have in common is that they are made from natural, environmentally friendly, and pure materials.

The same applies to our cornfiber duvets, which are filled with a man-made fiber made from 100% recyclable materials. The cornfiber is extracted from the plant sugar in corn starch and therefore contains only naturally degradable and recyclable raw materials. The cornfiber duvet is our response and natural alternative to the many synthetic and oil-based plastic fibers found in duvets today.

We know that the softness of a fiber duvet appeals to many when buying a new baby duvet. Therefore, we offer an alternative to the synthetic duvet and have created the same buttery soft feel of a duvet that wraps softly around the child with our cornfiber. The cornfiber is insulating and breathable, allowing the child to release heat and not sweat at night.
