Why choose a kapok summer duvet?

Most people can relate to the experience of a feather or down duvet becoming very warm during the night. You get so warm that you need to lift the duvet a bit during the night to cool down. This is because feathers and down are both fantastic at insulating. The good insulation provides a lovely feeling during the cold months when we want to retain as much warmth as possible. It's really nice until the duvet and mattress have warmed up to body temperature. After that, the body needs to get rid of the excess heat and moisture. This is where feathers and down often fall short. A kapok duvet is fantastic at regulating heat around the body due to the lightness and structure of the kapok fiber, which allows heat and moisture to be transported away from the body. A kapok duvet is therefore especially suitable for those who tend to get too warm at night.

Kapok is a natural fiber that grows on the kapok tree Cebia pentandra in the tropical rainforests of southern and central America, India, and the western part of Africa. You can partially compare kapok to cotton, but kapok differs by being much airier than cotton. The kapok fiber contains 80% air and is thus 8 times lighter than cotton, making it the world's lightest natural fiber. The high air content in the kapok fiber is what makes it incredibly temperature-regulating and breathable.

When you sleep with a kapok duvet, you will experience that the duvet adapts to your body temperature. A kapok duvet is therefore one of the best things to sleep with if you have problems with night sweats or simply find a regular down duvet too warm and insulating. A kapok duvet also stands out by being water-repellent. Kapok contains a natural layer of wax around each silky soft fiber. This means that the kapok duvet will not absorb the moisture and sweat that the body releases during the night. Instead, the moisture is transported away from the body through the fiber's many airy cavities. You will therefore find that a kapok duvet remains wonderfully dry throughout the night.

Our Amazing Maize duvet is filled with our revolutionary cornfiber, which is both hypoallergenic and vegan. The duvet is made from 100% recyclable resources and is also 100% naturally biodegradable. Our fiber duvet is covered with our 100% organic certified cotton, which is so tightly woven that dust mites cannot penetrate it.

Our revolutionary product series Amazing Maize is our vegan alternative to down duvets and pillows. The pillows and duvets are filled with 100% cornfiber and have a cover of 100% organic certified cotton. The cornfiber has a long and hollow fiber structure, similar to a wool fiber, which gives the cornfiber its unique temperature-regulating properties. The cornfiber is also water-repellent and ensures that excess heat and moisture are directed through the duvet instead of being absorbed. Therefore, the duvet will remain dry and comfortable throughout the night.

Our cornfiber is the first man-made fiber made from a 100% recyclable resource. The cornfiber is made from lactic acid, extracted from the plant sugar in the corn plant's starch during its fermentation process. Therefore, the cornfiber contains only naturally biodegradable and recyclable raw materials, which can either be recycled or broken down into organic material. The cornfiber is our green response to today's synthetic and oil-based plastic fibers, which cannot be naturally degraded and are not recycled enough, thus burdening the planet. The production of cornfiber requires nearly 70% fewer fossil fuels than the production of ordinary synthetic fibers, and is therefore considered the first greenhouse-neutral fiber ever created.

Wool Summer Duvet 140x200

Cocoon Merino Wool

WDS-140200

Summer is a wonderful season, but for both young and old, the warm summer nights can lead to restless sleep. Do you find your all-season duvet too warm? Then it will definitely be beneficial for you to replace your all-season duvet with a cool summer duvet.

Temperature Regulating

Merino wool is naturally breathable and is actually one of the most breathable materials available. Merino wool is an active fiber that reacts to changes in body temperature. In warm environments, wool feels up to two times cooler against the skin than synthetic materials.

Moisture Wicking

When the body gets warm, the merino wool wicks away the heat by absorbing moisture from the body and allowing it to evaporate through its fibers. Merino wool can absorb up to 35% of its own weight in moisture without feeling wet or losing its temperature-regulating properties. This is particularly beneficial during warm summer nights when the body releases moisture to maintain its core temperature.

100% Organic

We use neither chemicals nor synthetically manufactured materials to produce your summer duvet with merino wool. The summer duvet has a casing of 100% organically certified cotton. We use long wool fibers, which are carded to create a light and airy summer duvet. We use only 100% natural and untreated merino wool, which is beneficial for the environment and for you, as you get the best and most natural summer duvet.

Antibacterial

We use 100% natural and untreated merino wool in our summer duvet. This means we have not washed out the natural lanolin content from the wool. The natural lanolin content helps create an antibacterial environment in the merino wool, where dust mites, bacteria, and fungi cannot thrive.

Summer Duvet with Down or Merino Wool?

Several studies show that both children and adults sleep better with merino wool - amazing, right?! Research indicates that newborns sleep more peacefully in merino wool and are less likely to wake and cry during the night. But adults also benefit greatly from sleeping with merino wool. Merino wool has significantly better temperature-regulating properties than other materials like down, which is often used for summer duvets. When choosing a good summer duvet, it is important to select one that is more regulating rather than insulating.

As previously mentioned, merino wool is one of the most breathable fibers available and is fantastic at adapting to your child's body temperature. When you choose a summer duvet with merino wool instead of a traditional summer duvet with feathers or down, you will find that the summer duvet with merino wool is much better at adapting to your child's core temperature than a down duvet. This is because a down duvet is more insulating rather than regulating. When you get warm under the duvet, you will find that your down duvet becomes damp. A feather or down duvet quickly becomes damp when you sweat, as feathers and down absorb moisture. You will not experience this with a summer duvet with merino wool. Merino wool can absorb 35% of its own weight in moisture without feeling damp.

If you ask us, merino wool is an underrated and overlooked filling in duvets - especially summer duvets. Still in doubt? Don't hesitate to contact customer service for further guidance.

A good night's sleep is essential for our health, as most people know. Therefore, we believe it's important to give yourself the best conditions for achieving as comfortable and uninterrupted a night's sleep as possible. A Cocoon wool duvet is a cool, breathable, and temperature-regulating all-season duvet that can help create the right conditions for just that. The lightness of merino wool allows the duvet to regulate the heat around the body and transport excess moisture and heat away from the body, ensuring you experience a temperate and dry night's sleep.

Our wool duvet is filled with 100% untreated merino wool and covered with a casing of certified organic cotton.
What makes our Cocoon merino wool duvet special:

  • Temperature-regulating & moisture-wicking
  • 100% organic and chemical-free materials
  • Naturally hypoallergenic & dust mite-free
  • Unique carding

Why choose a wool duvet?

Most people can relate to the experience of a feather or down duvet becoming very warm during the night. You get so warm that you need to lift the duvet a bit during the night to cool down. This is because feathers and down are both excellent insulators. The good insulation provides a really nice feeling during the cold months when we want to retain as much heat as possible. It's really nice until you've warmed the duvet and mattress to body temperature. After that, the body needs to get rid of the excess heat and moisture. This is where feathers and down often fall short.

Many people perceive wool as just a warm fiber, only suitable for winter. However, the truth is that wool possesses unrivaled properties for regulating temperature and moisture, making it suitable for both cold and warm weather. Wool uses your body temperature to generate heat, and when it gets too warm, the wool absorbs the moisture around the body and cools it down. The secret behind the wool fiber's incredible breathability is the lanolin-rich surface, which allows the fiber to absorb large amounts of moisture. Merino wool can absorb 35% of its own weight in water and moisture without feeling wet and still keeps your body dry and warm. It is also the lanolin content in merino wool that ensures your duvet does not smell of sweat and creates an antibacterial environment that dust mites cannot live in. However, it is only in untreated wool that the lanolin is retained, so there will be a big difference between a duvet with untreated wool and a regular wool duvet.

Merino wool is distinguished by having slightly twisted fibers, making the wool perfect for carding into a fluffy soft 'cloud' of wool fibers. This makes the sleep products wonderfully soft and pliable, undoubtedly benefiting any sleep. To ensure the most breathable and temperature-regulating sleep product possible, we only use merino wool fibers that are over 8 cm long. The longer fibers create a more airy and lighter fill. This makes the duvet feel light, breathable, and incredibly body-neutral in its temperature.

From the Spanish mountains to your home

The Merino sheep is the world's most numerous sheep breed and originally comes from Spain, but is now widespread worldwide. For our Cocoon merino wool products, only wool from Merino sheep that roam the mountains daily is used. These sheep produce longer wool due to the colder mountain air. When selecting our merino wool, it is crucial that the production of the merino wool is done in the animals' best interest. We therefore have a strict policy of only using wool from sheep that are free-range, sheared in a fair and proper manner, and not subjected to mulesing. Therefore, we exclusively use Spanish merino wool, where mulesing is not practiced.

Silk Duvet 140x200

Cocoon Peaceful Silk

SDU-140200

A silk duvet is suitable for those who want a hypoallergenic duvet with fantastic breathability and excellent temperature-regulating properties. The hollow structure of the silk fiber is what gives silk its unique absorption ability, allowing moisture to be easily transported through the fiber. This gives the duvet fantastic breathability and ensures a dry and comfortable sleeping environment throughout the night. Since dust mites and mold do not thrive in these environments, silk duvets are often recommended for allergy sufferers and asthmatics.

Silk duvets are a thinner duvet, as the silk fibers are incredibly thin and lie very close in the carding. Many mistakenly believe that a silk duvet can only be used as a summer duvet. However, a silk duvet can be used all year round, due to the fiber's hollow structure. The hollow structure allows the silk fiber to respond quickly to changing temperatures in the sleeping environment, creating a thermoregulating effect around the body. This means that regardless of whether you tend to feel cold or too warm, a silk duvet will always adapt to your body's needs.

The sad truth is that most of us either do not wish to understand or do not care about how conventional silk is produced. The result is that hundreds of millions, maybe even billions of silkworms are killed each year before they can become a silk moth. All because we as consumers demand products made with silk, without thinking more about the consequences.

What makes our Cocoon merino wool duvet special:

  • Naturally hypoallergenic & dust mite-free
  • Unique carding

Why choose a wool duvet?

Most people can relate to the experience of a feather or down duvet becoming very warm during the night. You get so warm that you need to lift the duvet a bit during the night to cool down. This is because feathers and down are both fantastic insulators. The good insulation provides a really nice feeling during the cold months when we want to retain as much warmth as possible. It's really nice until you've warmed the duvet and mattress to body temperature. After that, the body needs to get rid of the excess heat and moisture. This is where feathers and down often fall short.

Many people perceive wool as just a warm fiber, only suitable for winter. However, the truth is that wool possesses unparalleled properties for regulating temperature and moisture, making it suitable for both cold and warm weather. Wool uses your body temperature to generate warmth, and when it gets too warm, the wool absorbs the moisture around the body and cools it down. The secret behind the wool fiber's incredible breathability is the lanolin-rich surface, which allows the fiber to absorb large amounts of moisture. Merino wool can absorb 35% of its own weight in water and moisture without feeling wet and still keep your body dry and warm. It is also the lanolin content in merino wool that ensures your duvet does not smell of sweat and creates an antibacterial environment that dust mites cannot live in. However, it is only in untreated wool that the lanolin is still retained, which is why there is a big difference between a duvet with untreated wool and a regular wool duvet.

Merino wool is distinguished by having slightly twisted fibers, making it perfect for carding into a fluffy soft 'cloud' of wool fibers. This makes the sleep products wonderfully soft and pliable, undoubtedly benefiting any sleep. To ensure the most breathable and temperature-regulating sleep product possible, we only use merino wool fibers that are over 8 cm. The longer fibers create a more airy and lighter fill, making the duvet feel light, breathable, and incredibly body-neutral in its temperature.

When selecting our merino wool, it is crucial that the production of the merino wool is in the animals' best interest. We have a strict policy of only using wool from sheep that are free-range, sheared in a fair and proper manner, and not subjected to mulesing. Therefore, we exclusively use Spanish merino wool, where mulesing is not practiced.

A good night's sleep is essential for our health, as most people know. • Naturally hypoallergenic & dust mite-free

Which thickness should I choose?

A good rule of thumb is:

  • If you often feel too warm at night and struggle with sweating during the night, even if you sleep cool, then the light version is a really good choice for you. If you really struggle with the heat, to the extent that even summer duvets feel too warm, then try looking at our wool summer duvet, which is even thinner than the light wool duvet. If there's a duvet that can help with the heat - it's this one.
  • If you often feel warm and find yourself having to push your normal duvet aside to cool down, or if you experience both warm and cold nights, then the medium (standard) version is a good choice for you.
  • If you often feel cold and are a bit of a cold-blooded person, then the heavy version is a really good choice.

What you need to be aware of with wool, which is very different from other duvets, is that the temperature range a wool duvet can handle is much broader than that of a regular duvet. While feather and down duvets often come in many thicknesses for different room temperatures and seasons, a Cocoon wool duvet can cover multiple seasons and much larger fluctuations in room temperatures. This is due to the wool duvet's incredible breathability and unique temperature-regulating properties. A person who often feels warm and a person who often feels cold can easily sleep under the same duvet, as the duvet will cool one while warming the other.

If you're in doubt, don't hesitate to contact us and have a chat about your needs and which wool duvet we think will suit you and your preferences best.

The cornfiber is also water-repellent and ensures that excess heat and moisture are led through the duvet instead of being absorbed. The duvet will therefore remain dry and comfortable throughout the night.

The production of cornfiber requires nearly 70% less fossil fuel than conventional synthetic fibers, and is therefore considered the first greenhouse-neutral fiber ever created.

Wool Summer Duvet 200x220

Cocoon Merino Wool

WDS-200220

Summer is a wonderful season, but for both young and old, the warm summer nights can lead to restless sleep. Do you find your all-season duvet too warm? Then it will definitely be beneficial for you to replace your all-season duvet with a cool summer duvet.

Temperature Regulating

Merino wool is naturally breathable and is actually one of the most breathable materials available. Merino wool is an active fiber that reacts to changes in body temperature. In warm environments, wool feels up to twice as cool against the skin as synthetic materials.

Moisture Wicking

When the body gets warm, merino wool wicks away the heat by absorbing moisture from the body and allowing it to evaporate through its fibers. Merino wool can absorb up to 35% moisture of its own weight without feeling wet or losing its temperature-regulating properties. This is particularly beneficial during warm summer nights when the body releases moisture to maintain its core temperature.

100% Organic

We use neither chemicals nor synthetically manufactured materials to produce your summer duvet with merino wool. The summer duvet has a casing of 100% organically certified cotton. We use long wool fibers that are carded to create a light and airy summer duvet.

Research shows that newborns sleep more peacefully in merino wool and are less likely to wake and cry during the night. But adults also benefit greatly from sleeping with merino wool. Merino wool has significantly better temperature-regulating properties than other materials like down, which is often used for summer duvets. When choosing a good summer duvet, it is important to choose a duvet that is more regulating rather than insulating.

As previously mentioned, merino wool is one of the most breathable fibers available and is fantastic at adapting to your child's body temperature. When you choose a summer duvet with merino wool instead of a traditional summer duvet with feathers or down, you will find that the summer duvet with merino wool is far better at adapting to your child's core temperature than a down duvet. Merino wool can absorb 35% moisture of its own weight without feeling damp.

If you ask us, merino wool is an underrated and overlooked filling in duvets - especially summer duvets. Still in doubt? Do not hesitate to contact customer service for further guidance.

Silk Double Duvet 200x220

Silk Double Duvet 200x220

Cocoon Peaceful Silk

SDU-200220

A silk duvet is suitable for those who want a hypoallergenic duvet with fantastic breathability and excellent temperature-regulating properties. The hollow structure of the silk fiber is what gives silk its unique absorption ability, allowing moisture to be easily transported through the fiber. This provides the duvet with fantastic breathability and ensures a dry and comfortable sleeping environment throughout the night. As dust mites and mold do not thrive in these environments, silk duvets are often recommended for allergy sufferers and asthmatics.

Silk duvets are a thinner duvet, as the silk fibers are incredibly thin and lie very close together in the carding.

The sad truth is that most of us either do not wish to understand or are indifferent to how conventional silk is produced. The result is that hundreds of millions, perhaps even billions of silkworms are killed each year before they can become silk moths. All because we as consumers demand products made with silk, without thinking more about the consequences.

The longer fibers create a more airy and lighter fill, making the duvet feel light, breathable, and incredibly body-neutral in its temperature.

From the Spanish mountains to your home

The Merino sheep is the world's most populous sheep breed and originally comes from Spain, but is now widespread worldwide. For our Cocoon merino wool products, only wool from Merino sheep that roam the mountains daily is used. These sheep produce longer wool due to the colder mountain air.

Silk Double Duvet 240x220

Silk Double Duvet 240x220

Cocoon Peaceful Silk

SDU-240220

The result is that hundreds of millions, perhaps even billions, of silkworms are killed each year before they can become a silk moth. All because we as consumers demand products made with silk, without thinking more about the consequences.

At Cocoon Company, we make chemical-free, natural duvets for the whole family in kapok, silk, merino wool, and cornfiber. All our duvets are breathable, temperature-regulating, and hypoallergenic. Regardless of which filling material you choose, it is encased in an outer cover of organic GOTS-certified cotton. No trees need to be felled, pesticides used, or animals harmed to obtain our raw materials.

The choice of a new duvet is just as important for your night's sleep and sleep comfort as when you choose a new mattress. Therefore, it's a really good idea to take a closer look at the different duvet filling materials and properties before you buy. Further down the page, we help you choose the perfect duvet that matches your needs.

How to choose the perfect adult duvet

Choose the right adult duvet size

You get the best experience by sleeping in a duvet that fits your body size. As a rule of thumb, the duvet should be about 20cm longer than you. So if you are around 180cm, it might be a good idea to choose a duvet with extra length.

But "one size doesn't fit all," and it's entirely individual which length duvet you prefer to sleep with. Should the toes peek out? Or should both ears and toes be able to be covered by the duvet at the same time?

Some prefer to sleep under a double duvet with their partner, while others prefer to have their own duvet so as not to disturb each other when turning and tossing in sleep.

In Denmark, we have some standard sizes for adult duvets that will cover most needs:

Single duvets measure: 140 x 200/220 cm

Double duvets measure: 200 x 200 cm, 200 x 220 cm, or 240 x 220 cm

In other countries, the sizes look a bit different. Therefore, be aware to choose the right size for your duvet so that it fits your bedding at home.

Choose an adult duvet with good regulation ability

A duvet that is good at temperature regulation gives you better sleep without awakenings, whether you tend to sweat or freeze at night.

At Cocoon, we talk about regulation ability rather than fill power, which is a term you encounter in down duvets. Fill power tells something about how well the duvet insulates. At Cocoon, we instead focus on how well the duvet helps you regulate heat.

Which filling material should I choose for my adult duvet?

At Cocoon, we make duvets for adults as well as baby and junior in 4 carefully selected natural materials.

All our filling materials have their unique properties, created by nature. Therefore, it is important that you read a bit about the different filling materials' properties and strengths so that you choose the perfect duvet that best matches your needs and desires.

Kapok duvets the popular choice

A duvet with kapok filling is an excellent choice for you who want to elevate your night's sleep to new heights. Whether you are looking for a more climate-friendly alternative to the down or fiber duvet you may have been used to sleeping with, or you want a hypoallergenic, vegan, and organic duvet, our kapok duvets can do the job.

Our kapok duvets are filled with soft, untreated kapok fibers and have an outer cover in 100% organic, GOTS-certified cotton.

A kapok duvet is thus 100% plant-based and is, without comparison, one of the most natural and pure duvets on the market today.

And now you might be looking for which certificates our kapok duvets have? We understand that. It is indeed how we as consumers are "trained" to relate to the products we buy. Certificates can also, to a large extent, be a good guideline for how we should prioritize our consumption.

But we actually believe that the green butterfly in our logo is the only stamp that fundamentally needs to be on a kapok duvet. Furthermore, certificates and stamps we have to pay dearly for to use are actually superfluous.

Kapok is indeed the most natural, untreated material you can fill in a duvet that does not come from animals. No processing is done it is 100% pure nature. The free nature can be difficult to certify. It requires us to grow our kapok in plantations so that production can be controlled down to the smallest detail.

We do not believe that plantation farming can go 100% in harmony with biodiversity. Creating a plantation would indeed require clearing wild forests and fencing large land areas. Then the wild animals can no longer move freely, and we will disturb nature's own balance. This does not align with our core values of creating the best and purest sleep products on the market. Read much more about who we are.

Kapok duvets are breathable and temperature-regulating

Kapok is a natural fiber we harvest from the tall kapok trees in the tropical forests. The fiber is incredibly airy and consists of about 80% hollow space. This makes the duvet breathable and temperature-regulating, so it constantly adapts to your body temperature.

If you are warm or sweat at night, you will experience a significant change in your night's sleep by switching to a duvet with kapok filling.

The kapok fiber indeed conducts heat and sweat away from the body and surroundings. When your body temperature is kept even throughout the night and you avoid sweating, you will experience a calmer night's sleep without awakenings.

Another noteworthy property of kapok is that the fibers contain a natural bitter substance that makes dust mites, bacteria, and mold not thrive in the duvet. Therefore, kapok duvets are hypoallergenic and antimicrobial.

Is a kapok duvet all-year-round?

When you buy a kapok duvet from Cocoon, it is usable as an all-year-round duvet. But if you are extra warm in the summer, we have made a summer duvet with kapok. The summer duvets are produced in the same lovely materials as our regular duvets with kapok as the filling material. It gives you all the same properties as in the all-year-round duvets, but just with a little less filling, so the duvet becomes thinner.

How does a kapok duvet feel?

When we are to buy a new duvet, it is very individual what we associate with a good and comfortable feeling in the duvet. The decision is often based on what we have previously tried sleeping in.

When you choose a kapok duvet, it initially does not feel as soft and fluffy as the down or fiber duvet you may have previously slept with. A kapok duvet is indeed firmer and feels a bit more like a thick quilt right at the start.

The kapok duvets from Cocoon are indeed filled with extra kapok filling than other kapok duvets because we know that the filling will settle a bit and become softer after some time of use.

So by filling them extra from the start, we have ensured that your duvet stays lovely and has a longer lifespan.

You can read much more about kapok as an exceptional material for filling in duvets, pillows, and mattresses.

Silk duvets like sleeping on a cloud

Our Mulberry Peace silk duvets are the world's first series of duvets for the whole family, made in animal-friendly silk. The silk we use is not created in the traditional way, where the silk larvae must give their lives for the silk to be extracted.

Mulberry silk, in Danish mulberry silk, is the world's finest silk produced in harmony with nature, where the silk larvae are allowed to live on. The larvae are allowed to hatch into silk butterflies and reproduce. Just as nature has created them.

Cocoon adult duvets in silk are filled with the fantastically soft mulberry silk and have an outer cover of 100% organic GOTS-certified cotton.

The silk in our duvets is naturally breathable and has an incredibly airy structure that helps to wick moisture away from the body when you sleep. Dust mites and mold do not thrive in dry environments, and therefore a silk duvet is especially recommended for people with asthma and allergies.

The silk fibers in Cocoon Mulberry Peace duvets are very thin and fine. This results in a soft, flexible, and light duvet that gives you the feeling of sleeping on a cloud. A silk duvet will, due to the very fine fibers, always feel a bit thinner than other duvets. Many therefore believe that silk duvets can only be used as summer duvets.

But the hollow, airy structure in the silk fiber means that it constantly adapts to the temperature in the surroundings and creates a temperature-regulating effect around your body when you sleep. So whether you tend to freeze or sweat at night, you will be able to use a silk duvet all year round.

Our silk duvets are pure luxury for your night's sleep.

Wool duvets no more counting sheep

Crawling under a wool duvet is a very special feeling that just has to be tried. Wool is naturally created to regulate temperature to keep sheep dry and warm even with large temperature fluctuations. The wool indeed has a lanolin-rich surface that makes the fiber able to absorb large amounts of moisture.

At the same time, the lanolin in the wool ensures that the duvet does not smell and creates an antimicrobial environment where dust mites cannot survive.

Perhaps you know the good feeling wool gives on the body when you wear woolen clothes? All the same good properties you can enjoy by sleeping with a wool duvet. There will always be an even temperature under a wool duvet, it is breathable and keeps your body dry from sweat. Merino wool can indeed absorb up to 35% of its own weight in water without feeling damp.

With a wool duvet from Cocoon, it is no longer necessary to count sheep to fall asleep. You will love your wool duvet, and it feels like a big, soothing hug when you go to bed.

Our wool (link: https://www.cocooncompany.dk/shop/270-merino-wool/ ) comes from European merino sheep, where we ourselves select the longest wool fibers. The long fibers give us a softer and much more airy wool for our duvets.

When the wool is as temperature-regulating and breathable as ours, you can actually use your wool duvet all year round. But if you experience waking up at night because you are either very warm or cold at night, we have made our wool duvets in 3 different weight classes, so there is a wool duvet for every need. You will find our wool duvets in a light, medium, and heavy version.

We recommend that our wool duvets be sent for cleaning rather than washing them in the machine at home. Simply to take the best possible care of your duvet and protect the natural properties of the wool. In return, wool is naturally self-cleaning and does not need to be washed as often. Instead, hang the duvet up in the bathroom while you shower. The steam in the room will clean the wool fibers and remove any odor. In this way, you take the best possible care of your wool duvet and spare the environment from unnecessary washing.

Cornfiber duvets a revolutionary sleep

If you love the softness of a fiber duvet but are looking for an alternative in pure natural materials, then our cornfiber duvets are for you. We have indeed created a soft fiber for duvets and pillows made from 100% recyclable and natural materials.

Many of the fiber duvets you find on the market today are unfortunately made with artificial, oil-based plastic fibers. Our cornfiber duvets are a natural and chemical-free alternative that has the same lovely softness you know.

The cornfiber is extracted from the plant sugar in corn starch and therefore contains only naturally degradable and recyclable raw materials. The cornfiber is insulating and breathable, so you can get rid of the heat and not lie and sweat at night.

Which adult duvet should I choose when I sweat a lot?

Night sweats are completely natural to experience, both in men and women, young and old. Some experience it persistently throughout life, others only in periods. It can be during puberty, menopause, or in particularly stressful periods of life.

Night sweats can thus be the body's way of telling you that there is an imbalance in your body. It can be hormonal or in your nervous system.

To avoid sweating so much at night, you should start by turning down the temperature in the room you sleep in. It is recommended to have only about 19 degrees in the sleeping room.

In addition, you need to have your sleeping environment examined. Start with your base:

What mattress do you sleep on? Is it made of artificial, synthetic materials that make it difficult for the body to get rid of the heat?

Are mattress, mattress topper, and mattress pad in need of replacement? If so, we recommend that you switch to a base of natural materials. And if it's not time for the big replacement right now, just start with a new mattress pad in our lovely kapok fibers. Just that will make a big difference for your night's sleep.

What duvet do you sleep with? Can your skin and body breathe in the duvet's filling material?

What is your pillow made of? Many people today sleep on pillows made of foam materials, which can be difficult for the body to breathe through. A large part of our body heat is released through the head, but if we snuggle down into a pillow of synthetic fiber or foam, the heat cannot escape, and we risk waking up with hair wet from sweat.

It is important that you sleep with materials that allow your skin and body to breathe at night. That is step number 1 on the way to fewer night sweats.

Vegan duvets

Are you vegan and looking for a more natural and climate-friendly alternative to the synthetic sleep products you may often encounter?

Then you can safely choose between our adult duvets with both kapok filling and our cornfiber duvets. These duvets are indeed 100% plant-based and free of animal substances. Both kapok and cornfiber duvets also give you a comfortable and well-tempered night's sleep.

What is the difference between an all-year-round duvet, summer duvet, and winter duvet?

At Cocoon, we classify most of our duvets as all-year-round duvets because they are so good at temperature regulation and adapting to the body and room temperature in the sleeping environment.

However, there can be individual needs where a thinner duvet is needed in the summer and a thicker one in the winter if you freeze a lot at night.

We have therefore made our kapok duvets and wool duvets in different thicknesses. This means that it is the same filling material you get in a summer and winter duvet as in an all-year-round duvet. There is just respectively less or more filling in it.

Can I wash my duvet?

You can generally wash your duvet from Cocoon. However, we have some advice and guidelines for you that it is important you follow to take good care of your duvet and extend its lifespan.

Our duvets are all 100% natural and free of chemicals, excess dyes, and other things you might want to wash out of a duvet. Therefore, we do not recommend washing your Cocoon duvet before use. It will only cause unnecessary wear on your new, lovely duvet.

If a wash cannot be avoided, we have some individual recommendations depending on which filling material you have in your duvet.

Read our guide to washing duvets.

How often should I replace my adult duvet?

The better you take care of your duvet, the longer it lasts. But as a rule of thumb, an adult duvet lasts 5-10 years and should then be replaced. Both for hygiene reasons and because the duvet simply wears out.

We all sleep differently. Some lie completely still, others move a lot. Some freeze, others sweat. These are all factors that can contribute to wearing out your duvet more or less.

You should therefore inspect your duvet a couple of times a year.

  • Check for holes in the outer cover
  • Has the filling settled and clumped in the corners of the duvet's sections
  • Are there stains and discoloration

When the duvet should be replaced is, of course, also a matter of temperament. We all have different thresholds for when a duvet is worn out and needs replacement. However, we will always encourage you to use things up before replacing them. It reduces our overall consumption and is good for the environment.
