Cocoon Peaceful Silk

A silk pillow is ideal for those who want a hypoallergenic pillow with fantastic breathability and excellent temperature-regulating properties. The hollow structure of the silk fiber is what gives silk its unique absorption ability, allowing moisture to be more easily transported through the fiber. The hollow structure enables the silk fiber to quickly respond to changing temperatures in the sleeping environment, creating a thermoregulating effect around the body. This means that whether you tend to feel cold or too warm, a silk pillow will always adapt to your body's needs. This provides the pillow with fantastic breathability and ensures a dry and comfortable sleeping environment throughout the night.

Since dust mites and mold do not thrive in these environments, silk duvets are often recommended for allergy sufferers and asthmatics. Silk pillows are usually very thin head pillows, as the silk fibers are incredibly thin and lie very close together in the carding. Therefore, we have added organic kapok fiber to the pillow, which provides more volume without compromising the fantastic properties of the silk fiber. The kapok fiber is itself excellent for temperature regulation and is naturally hypoallergenic, as dust mites and mold cannot live in the fiber.

ORGANIC SILK PILLOW FROM COCOON COMPANY

Our handmade silk pillows consist of the finest filling material you can imagine. We have blended our luxurious organic mulberry silk with our organic kapok. Normally, you would find that silk pillows are thin and quickly become flat. But when we add 50% organic kapok, we create a completely different volume and shape for your pillow. At the same time, you can enjoy the unique breathable and temperature-regulating properties of the two natural materials.

All materials in the pillow are 100% organic. From the kapok fiber to the silk and the outer soft cover, which consists of 100% organic, certified cotton. You will experience a natural, chemical-free, and almost floating soft sleep on our exclusive silk pillows with kapok. At the same time, you will provide yourself with a cleaner and healthier environment around your bed, where your body can find peace and rest after a long day.

Our silk pillows are 100% pure nature. The small silkworms cannot tolerate even the slightest contact with pesticides on the leaves where they live. They will die immediately if they come into contact with a pesticide. Therefore, mulberry silk is completely pure, entirely free of chemicals, and 100% organic.

The fibers of mulberry silk are very long and are spun into hundreds of thin silk layers, which help create the magic in your pillow. The many fine layers add breathability to your pillow, and this is where the whole difference is felt. Many places you can read about a product that is "soft as silk." But in our silk pillows, you get the real deal, and the difference can be felt. A pillow made of pure silk is soft and airy. It molds to your head and provides good support and comfort when you rest your head on it. It's like sleeping on a cloud.

At the same time, genuine silk is also one of the most flame-retardant materials you can sleep in. Silk cannot burn. When exposed to fire, it will melt and disappear.

WHAT IS AHIMSA SILK?

Silk is not just silk

What you may not know is that there is a dark side to the conventional silk industry. It is a material that has its roots dating back to 3000 years before Christ. And since then, the demand has exploded. Already in the year 200, the Romans were so wild about the luxurious material from the East that national restrictions had to be set on how much silk was imported. It was such that the country's gold disappeared as quickly as the silk was imported.

It is therefore no surprise that the silk industry has become enormously large. Unfortunately, this has resulted in a quite inhumane and unethical way of forcing even more silk through. A production method where billions of silk moths are killed each year to extract as much silk as possible, as quickly as possible. The butterfly larvae are exposed to growth hormones so they can produce an even larger pupa and thus provide even more silk. The silkworms are then boiled alive in their cocoons to get as much yield from the pupa as possible without destroying it.

Therefore, the method of peaceful-silk or "Ahimsa" silk has been invented, which is produced with respect for the small organisms that spin the silk cocoons. Ahimsa is a word that comes from Sanskrit and means "lack of desire to kill." And that is precisely the big difference between our peaceful silk and conventionally produced silk.

In our production, the silkworms are gently cut out of their cocoons and moved onto mulberry leaves, where they can develop into silk moths and eventually reproduce.

This production method is slower, more expensive, and yields less than conventional silk production. But in return, it is humane and ensures balance in nature.

Many are surprised and may even feel a bit guilty when they hear about this difference in which silk material to choose. But you should know that by choosing a pillow in peaceful silk from Cocoon Company, you support a harmonious silk production where the animals are well cared for, and nature's balance is maintained.

WHY CHOOSE A SILK PILLOW?

You should choose a silk pillow because you want an antibacterial, breathable, and sweat-wicking pillow. A silk pillow ensures that you stay dry from sweat all night long. Due to the unique breathable properties of silk, you will never wake up with a wet pillow again. This lightness and airiness in the material make many mistakenly believe that silk is a product that is only suitable for sleeping with in the summer. But on the contrary, silk has some excellent temperature-regulating properties, a bit like you might know from wool. It keeps you warm when it's cold and cools you when it gets too hot. In this way, you will always experience a pleasant and even temperature around your head on the pillow.

You should also choose a silk pillow because it is widely known that silk is one of the most hypoallergenic materials you can sleep with. By welcoming our silk pillows into your bedroom, you reduce the amount of dust mites. This will be noticeable to people who suffer from dust mite allergies. They will immediately achieve a better and more peaceful sleep because the allergy is not triggered when they go to bed.

Nature is so incredibly smartly designed that it creates its own defense mechanism, no matter where in nature's harsh food chain the individual organism is located. For the small silkworms, it's about protecting the pupa from external threats. Therefore, the larvae form a substance in the pupa's silk threads that protects it from attacks by mold, mildew, mites, etc. These organisms do not like the substance that the silkworm produces and therefore cannot thrive.

We handle the silk fibers so gently that these natural substances remain in the silk we fill into our peaceful silk pillows. And therefore, you can benefit from exactly the same defense mechanism that the silkworm created for itself. Namely, that dust mites, many bacteria, and other pests cannot survive in your silk pillow. Therefore, a silk pillow is extremely hygienic and is very suitable for people with sensitive skin, asthma, eczema, and allergies.

WASHING AND MAINTAINING SILK PILLOWS

Mulberry silk is, as mentioned, naturally resistant to many bacteria and pests. Therefore, it is not necessary to wash your silk pillow in the same way and as often as pillows made of, for example, fibers, down, and feathers.

In fact, we recommend that you do not wash it at all. Instead, you should air it outdoors at regular intervals. If a stain occurs, you can gently spot clean the area with a damp cloth.

If a total wash of the pillow cannot be avoided, we recommend that you send it to be dry cleaned at a dry cleaner.
