Cocoon Organic Kapok

DUV-065080

Here you will find Cocoons small pram duvet with kapok. The duvet measures 65x80 cm and is therefore slightly smaller than the child's normal baby duvet. The duvet thus fits better around the child when sleeping in the carrycot and pram.

The duvet is filled with 100% natural and organic kapok fibers and is covered with a strong GOTS certified organic cotton outer shell. No chemicals or synthetic materials have been used during either the cultivation or production of the duvet.

Why you should choose a Cocoon kapok pram duvet:

  • Heat-regulating and moisture-wicking
  • 100% organic and chemical-free
  • Naturally hypoallergenic and free from dust mites
  • Vegan

Our kapok pram duvet is fantastically breathable and temperature-regulating for the child sleeping with it. Therefore, it can also be used as an all-year-round duvet. However, on cold and windy days, we always recommend checking your child to see if there is a need for a wool blanket over the duvet. Alternatively, our pram duvets are also available with wool, where you can also find a thicker winter duvet for the pram.

The natural kapok fibers consist of 80% hollow space and are therefore very airy and light. This makes the duvet really good at regulating the heat around your child when sleeping. At the same time, the fiber is water-repellent and will transport moisture and sweat away, so your child gets a more peaceful sleep in the pram.

When your child is born, the center in the brain that controls its body temperature is not yet fully developed. In other words, the child cannot regulate its body temperature on its own and needs help from the surroundings to maintain an even body temperature. And this is especially important when we, as here in Denmark, put our little ones to nap outside in the pram. Therefore, it is essential to choose a pram duvet for your newborn with this property. It provides peace of mind for you and the best nap for your child.

Our pram duvets with kapok filling are hypoallergenic because dust mites, mold, and bacteria do not thrive in the bitter substance naturally found in kapok fibers.

How a kapok pram duvet feels

We fill extra kapok filling in our Cocoon duvets because we know from experience that the fibers settle a bit and become softer after some time of use. Therefore, your kapok pram duvet will feel a bit extra firm when you first receive it and will only achieve the perfect thickness and softness after some time of use.

We recommend that parents sleep with the duvet for some time before the child uses it. Both to soften the fibers, so the duvet becomes soft and supple. And so the duvet comes to smell comfortingly of mom and dad when the child is to lie with it.

With our kapok pram duvet, we wish to give your child the best conditions for a nap in the clean, fresh air without harmful chemicals from the sleeping environment.

Cocoon Merino Wool

WDU-065080

We believe it's important for children to have the best conditions for a comfortable and uninterrupted night's sleep. A Cocoon wool duvet is a cool, breathable, and temperature-regulating all-year duvet that can help create the right environment for the child. The lightness of merino wool allows the duvet to regulate the heat around the body and transport excess moisture and heat away from the body, ensuring the child has a temperate and dry night's sleep. This is especially important for infants, as small children can struggle to regulate their body temperature. This can lead to small children becoming too warm and starting to sweat. Therefore, it's incredibly important that the baby duvet is good enough to help the child regulate heat and moisture.

Our wool pram duvet is filled with 100% untreated merino wool and covered with a shell of certified organic cotton.
What makes our Cocoon merino wool pram duvet special:

  • Heat-regulating & moisture-transporting
  • 100% organic and chemical-free materials
  • Naturally hypoallergenic & dust mite-free
  • Unique carding

Which thickness should I choose?

A good rule of thumb is:

  • If the wool duvet is primarily used in the warmer half of the year, or only used indoors, then the light version is a good choice.
  • If the wool duvet is also to be used in colder months, and you're generally looking for an all-year duvet, then the medium (standard) version is a good choice.
  • If the wool duvet is primarily used in the cold months, and only used outdoors, then the heavy version is a good choice.

Why choose a wool duvet?

Most people can relate to the experience of a feather or down duvet becoming very warm during the night. You get so warm that you need to lift the duvet a bit during the night to cool down. This is because feathers and down are both fantastic insulators. The good insulating ability provides a really nice feeling during the cold months when we want to retain as much heat as possible. It's really nice until you've warmed the duvet and mattress to body temperature. After that, the body needs to get rid of the excess heat and moisture. This is where feathers and down often fall short.

Many people perceive wool as just a warm fiber, only suitable for winter. The truth is, wool possesses unmatched properties for regulating temperature and moisture, making it suitable for both cold and warm weather. Wool uses your body temperature to generate heat, and when it gets too warm, the wool absorbs the moisture around the body and cools it down. The secret behind the wool fiber's incredible breathability is the lanolin-rich surface, which allows the fiber to absorb large amounts of moisture. Merino wool can absorb 35% of its own weight in water and moisture without feeling wet and still keeps your body dry and warm. It's also the lanolin content in merino wool that ensures your duvet doesn't smell of sweat and creates an antibacterial environment that dust mites cannot live in. However, it's only in untreated wool that the lanolin is retained, so there will be a big difference between a duvet with untreated wool and a regular wool duvet.

Merino wool is distinguished by having slightly twisted fibers, making it perfect for carding into a fluffy soft 'cloud' of wool fibers. This makes the sleep products wonderfully soft and pliable, undoubtedly benefiting any sleep. To ensure the most breathable and temperature-regulating sleep product possible, we only use merino wool fibers over 8 cm. The longer fibers create a more airy and lighter fill. This makes the duvet feel light, breathable, and incredibly body-neutral in its temperature.

From the Spanish mountains to your home

The Merino sheep is the world's most numerous sheep breed and originally comes from Spain, but is now widespread worldwide. For our Cocoon merino wool products, only wool from Merino sheep that roam the mountains daily is used. These sheep produce longer wool due to the colder mountain air. Since we only use wool fibers over 8 cm, our wool duvets feel lighter and more airy, while also being more breathable and better at regulating heat.

When selecting our merino wool, it's crucial that the production of the merino wool is done with the animals' welfare in mind. We have a strict policy of only using wool from sheep that are free-range, sheared in a fair and proper manner, and not subjected to mulesing. Therefore, we exclusively use Spanish merino wool, where mulesing is not practiced.

You will find our pram duvets in 2 of our lovely natural materials, namely wool and kapok. These are the 2 duvet series that can best handle the colder temperatures, considering that you will primarily use our pram duvets when your child sleeps outdoors.

Both wool and kapok are 100% untreated and chemical-free materials, which with a high airiness in the fibers, provide your child with a breathable and temperature-regulating duvet to sleep with. With our natural materials, you will find that your child is kept perfectly tempered when sleeping in the pram, without the nap being disturbed by overheating or cold. At the same time, our materials are naturally hypoallergenic, due to the environment created around kapok and wool fibers, where dust mites and other pests do not thrive.

Which duvet in the pram?

When you tuck your little one in for a nap or a walk outside in the fresh air, there are some things you need to consider before heading out. Namely, how your child should be wrapped up. Both to keep warm in winter and to release heat again in the summer months, so it doesn't get too hot in the pram.

Small children are not able to regulate their body heat themselves and therefore need help from outside to create the right temperature around them, so they neither freeze nor sweat.

Our small pram duvets are made to fit perfectly around the child sleeping in a carrycot or pram. There is not "too much" duvet, which you end up having to tuck down along the sides of the child and at the foot end. The duvet fits perfectly for the purpose it is designed for. It is easier for the child to move, as we naturally do in sleep, when it is not too cramped in a large duvet.

Therefore, we warmly recommend a pram duvet for your child's outdoor naps. And a regular baby duvet for indoor use in the bed, where there is more space.

You should also consider what material and thickness the duvet should have, depending on the season and your personal preferences.

PRAM DUVET IN KAPOK
Our kapok pram duvet is 100% organic and vegan. The kapok we use is completely natural and untreated. It is an ultra-light natural fiber that is extremely breathable and temperature-regulating. The fibers consist of a whole lot of small cavities that allow heat and moisture to be transported through the material, rather than being accumulated as in, for example, cotton and feathers. Kapok is also hypoallergenic because the fibers contain a natural bitter substance where dust mites do not thrive.

At the same time, the kapok duvet will fall heavily around your child and in that way create security. Many children like the comforting feeling of the duvet resting around them. It's like a warm hug from mom and dad.

PRAM DUVET IN WOOL
Our organic merino wool is perfect as a filling material in pram duvets. Wool is one of nature's own little miracle materials. Like kapok, wool is excellent at regulating the temperature around your child when sleeping outdoors. You will never experience your child overheating when sleeping in wool. At the same time, wool is also fantastic at wicking moisture and sweat away from your child. It gives your child a more peaceful and undisturbed sleep.

Wool duvets for pram in 3 different thicknesses:

Light: Good for the summer months and indoor use.

Medium: Good if you want an all-year-round duvet. Medium can also keep your child warm in the cold months.

Heavy: Primarily for use in the winter months, on frosty days or for children who get cold when sleeping.

What should baby wear in the pram?

When you put your baby out to sleep in the pram, it should be dressed in clothes and outerwear suitable for the weather. In the warm months of the year, a cardigan and a small bonnet may be sufficient to wear under the pram duvet. But in the winter months when it's windy and cold, the little one should wear a wool suit, booties, mittens, and a warm hat when sleeping outside with the pram duvet over them.

Make sure to create shelter so it doesn't blow directly into the pram. And check on your child at regular intervals. You can gently feel the child's neck to see if they are warm or cold. If it's very cold, you can create a little extra warmth by placing a wool blanket on top of the pram mattress, providing more insulation against the cold from below. And you can place a wool blanket over the pram duvet in the cold months.

Can baby sleep outside in frost?

Your child can sleep outside even if there is frost. However, you should keep a closer eye on your child and the temperature. If it drops below 10 degrees of frost, it is not recommended for the child to be outside. Infants should not be put outside if there is frost.

Generally, for newborns, it is recommended that the child should be over 3 kilos or have regained their birth weight and be thriving before going outside to sleep in a pram.

Put your child in soft natural materials that keep him/her warm and well-tempered in the cold. With our organic pram duvets, your child can enjoy sleeping in the fresh winter air without getting too cold or overheated and sweaty. When you choose nature's own materials, your child will be much better able to regulate body temperature when sleeping outside in the pram than in synthetic materials.

With our natural pram duvets, we want you and your child to have a safe and pleasant experience with napping in the pram.
