Washing instructions

It is important to pay attention to how you maintain and wash your natural fiber duvet and pillow to preserve their properties in the best possible way and for as long as possible. If you take good care of them, you can enjoy your natural products for many years.

It is often recommended that you wash your duvet and pillow 1-2 times a year to avoid dust mites and other bacteria. However, to preserve the quality and properties of the natural fibers, we recommend that you only wash your natural product if absolutely necessary. Our kapok and wool fiber duvets and pillows are naturally antibacterial, which means that dust mites and bacteria cannot survive in the fibers. We have also chosen an organic cotton fabric that is so tightly woven that dust mites cannot penetrate it. Therefore, our maize fiber duvets and pillows are also allergy-friendly, and the products do not need to be washed to kill dust mites and bacteria. Our natural products are not treated with any form of chemicals – neither the filling nor the cover – and therefore we do NOT recommend washing your new fiber duvet and pillow before use.

Kapok

An outstanding natural fiber with unique properties

Kapok is an outstanding natural fiber with unique properties worth taking care of. Read our guide – and extend the life of your kapok product! To preserve the fiber structure and the fiber\'s properties in the best possible way, we recommend that you only wash your kapok product if absolutely necessary.

Your Cocoon kapok product is neither dyed nor treated with chemicals, and therefore you do not need to wash your new kapok product before use. In addition, kapok contains a natural bitter substance that makes the fiber, and thus the kapok products, antibacterial and resistant to dust mites. It is therefore not necessary to wash your kapok product unless there have been major accidents in bed. For minor stains, we recommend that you only spot clean your product.

Tip: We recommend that you air your kapok duvet once a month or as needed to preserve the structure of your duvet and ensure a healthy and fresh sleeping environment.

If it is necessary to wash your Cocoon kapok product

1
Washing
40° One at a time Short program

We recommend that you wash the product alone at 40 degrees to protect the kapok fiber, but it is possible to wash at 60 degrees if necessary.

Choose a short washing program, as it can be harmful for the kapok fiber to be wet for too long. Therefore, the kapok product should not be soaked either.

It is important that the chosen washing program includes strong centrifugation to remove as much water as possible from the product before drying.

NOTE: Do NOT use a combination machine (washing and drying in the same process) for washing a kapok product, as they often do not properly centrifuge the water out of the product before the drying process begins.

2
Centrifugation
1200-1400 rpm

After washing, run an extra centrifugation at 1200-1400 revolutions to spin out as much water as possible from the product. The better the product is centrifuged, the easier it is to dry.

3
Detergent
Gentle No fabric softener

Use a gentle detergent without enzymes and bleaches, such as Cocoon\'s soap nuts.

Do not use fabric softener.

4
Drying
Medium heat Wool dryer balls No tennis balls

After washing, the product must be dried immediately, otherwise the fiber may lose volume or, in the worst case, the fiber may clump together.

Dry your kapok product alone in the tumble dryer.

Therefore, give yourself plenty of time for the drying process, as kapok takes time to dry. We recommend that you use wool dryer balls as they help to significantly reduce drying time. They also ensure that the fibers are separated in a gentle way so that the fibers do not clump together.

Do not use tennis balls, as they can damage the kapok fiber.

Choose a 30 min. time program at medium heat. Check your kapok product after 30 min. and feel how much moisture is left in the product. Repeat the process until the product is slightly damp. Take out your kapok product and let it dry in a warm place until the rest of the moisture is gone.

Be careful not to dry your kapok product for too long in the tumble dryer, as this can reduce the life of the kapok fiber.

If you are unsure about how to wash and dry kapok, please do not hesitate to contact your local retailer or Cocoon Company\'s customer service at: support@cocoon-company.com

Since kapok is a natural fiber, it is completely normal for it to lose volume and become softer when used. Just as it is also natural for the fiber to change structure over time. The lifespan of your kapok product depends on external influences, use, wear and maintenance.
