Why choose a kapok pillow?

Most people can relate to the experience of a feather or down pillow becoming very warm during the night. You get so warm that you need to flip the pillow during the night to get the cool side. This is because feathers and down are both fantastic at insulating. The good insulation provides a really nice feeling during the cold months when we want to retain as much heat as possible. It's really nice until you've warmed the pillow and the duvet to body temperature. After this, the body needs to get rid of the excess heat and moisture. Unfortunately, this is where feathers and down often fall short. Kapok is a natural fiber that grows on the kapok tree Cebia pentandra in the tropical rainforests of southern and central America, India, and the western part of Africa. You can partially compare kapok to cotton, but kapok differs by being much airier than cotton. The kapok fiber contains 80% air and is thus 8 times lighter than cotton, making it the world's lightest natural fiber. The high air content in the kapok fiber is what makes it incredibly temperature-regulating and breathable.

When you sleep with a kapok pillow, you will experience that the pillow adapts to your body temperature. When your child is born, the part of the brain that controls our body temperature is not yet fully developed. How a kapok baby duvet feels

We fill extra kapok filling in our Cocoon duvets because we know from experience that the fibers settle a bit and become softer after some use. Therefore, your kapok baby duvet will feel a bit firm when you first receive it and will only achieve the perfect thickness and softness after some use.

Your child's small body cannot move the duvet enough to soften the fibers. Therefore, we recommend that parents sleep with the duvet for some time before the child uses it. MAINTENANCE OF YOUR KAPOK MATTRESS

As with all mattresses, it is a good idea to stand the mattress on its side occasionally to air it out. If you have a bed with a solid base, you should be particularly attentive to airing the mattress regularly. These bed bases make it harder to transport moisture away from the mattress. Kapok transports moisture and heat away from the child, but if the moisture cannot escape from the bottom of the mattress, it gets trapped between the mattress and the solid base. In the worst case, this can lead to mold spores forming under the mattress. Unfortunately, this can happen regardless of the mattress used. Therefore, air the mattress once a week, or as needed.
