Why choose a wool duvet?

Most people can relate to the experience of a feather or down duvet becoming very warm during the night. You get so warm that you need to lift the duvet a bit during the night to cool down. This is because feathers and down are both excellent insulators. The good insulating ability provides a really nice feeling during the cold months when we want to retain as much heat as possible. It's really nice until you've warmed the duvet and mattress to body temperature. After that, the body needs to get rid of the excess heat and moisture. This is where feathers and down often fall short.

Many people perceive wool as just a warm fiber, suitable only for winter. However, the truth is that wool possesses unmatched properties for regulating temperature and moisture, making it suitable for both cold and warm weather. Wool uses your body temperature to generate warmth, and when it gets too warm, the wool absorbs the moisture around the body and cools it down. The secret behind the wool fiber's incredible breathability is the lanolin-rich surface, which allows the fiber to absorb large amounts of moisture. Merino wool can absorb 35% of its own weight in water and moisture without feeling wet, keeping your body dry and warm. The Merino sheep is the world's most numerous sheep breed, originally from Spain, but now widespread across the globe. For our Cocoon merino wool products, we only use wool from Merino sheep that roam the mountains daily. These sheep produce longer wool due to the colder mountain air. Since we only use wool fibers over 8 cm, our wool duvets feel lighter and more airy, while also being more breathable and better at regulating temperature.

When selecting our merino wool, it is crucial that the production of the merino wool is conducted with animal welfare in mind. We have a strict policy of only using wool from sheep that are free-range, sheared in a fair and proper manner, and not subjected to mulesing. Therefore, we exclusively use Spanish merino wool, where mulesing is not practiced.

WASHING INSTRUCTIONS

The fitted sheet is durable and can be washed at 60 degrees. Since we have not used chemicals or synthetic fibers in the production of our sheet, we recommend that you use a gentle and chemical-free detergent for your sheet. This way, you ensure that your sheet remains 100% organic. You can, for example, use our soapberries, which are a 100% natural detergent.

ORGANIC COCONUT FIBER WITH NATURAL LATEX

One of the key ingredients in our PAPILIO junior mattress is the organic coconut fiber, used for the firm part of the mattress core. The coconut fibers are extracted through coconut production, washed and softened, after which the fibers are bound together into ropes, transforming the fibers into small springs. The coconut fibers are then bound together with natural latex, forming springy core components that provide a firm and supportive base in the mattress. As the coconut fiber layer is composed of large fibers, the base contains numerous air channels, giving the mattress base incredibly high breathability. The high breathability allows the child to release excess heat and moisture during a period when they have difficulty self-regulating their body temperature.

The firm base and high breathability make the coconut base perfect for the child's very first days in this world, where sleep is such an important part of the child's life. However, natural latex is not just natural latex. Often, natural latex is mixed with synthetic latex or fillers to create a cheaper mattress.

Our natural latex is therefore GOLS certified, which guarantees that the natural latex is free from artificial and harmful additives, and that the natural latex comes from organic latex plantations, where it has been cultivated without the use of artificial fertilizers or pesticides.
