Cocoon's mattress protector safeguards the mattress from bedwetting and other accidents. The mattress protector should be placed between the mattress and under the regular bed sheet. It features elastic bands at the ends, which can be secured around the corners of the mattress, ensuring it stays in place and stable throughout the night. The unique fabric of the mattress protector, made from 100% Oeko-Tex cotton flannel and biodegradable membrane, makes it wonderfully soft to lie on, waterproof, and breathable. The OEKO-TEX certificate guarantees a chemical-free product, benefiting both your child's sleep and health.

Breathable Mattress Protector for Juniors and Adults

When your child grows older and transitions from a crib to a junior bed, it doesn't necessarily mean the end of accidents. Juniors can also have accidents in bed during the night, making a mattress protector relevant for the junior bed as well.

What is a Mattress Protector?

Both young and old can have accidents in bed, and here the mattress protector offers a discreet solution. Cocoon's mattress protector is placed on top of the mattress and under the regular bed sheet to provide the best comfort for the child. The protector for larger mattresses is secured with elastic bands around the corners. This way, the protector stays well in place throughout the night. Protectors for smaller mattresses, where the child doesn't move much, such as in a crib, pram, and carrycot, are without elastic bands.

The challenge with regular mattress protectors is that the body cannot breathe through the waterproof layer. Many find it uncomfortable to sleep on a mattress protector. In developing Cocoon's mattress protector, it was crucial that the layer be breathable and comfortable to lie on. This was achieved by covering our unique breathable membrane with the finest fabric of 100% untreated cotton flannel. The unique membrane prevents liquid from penetrating the mattress while allowing the body to breathe through the protector.

Washing the Mattress Protector

Washing Cocoon's mattress protector is easy and straightforward. However, we recommend only washing your protector when necessary to protect the environment. The mattress protector is 100% Oeko-Tex certified, meaning it contains no harmful chemical residues that need to be washed away before use.

We recommend washing the protector at 40 degrees, or a maximum of 60 degrees in case of accidents. Choose a wash program for heavy laundry, as the protector can become heavy when washed, and some washing machines may struggle to spin it. If the water hasn't been spun out during the first spin cycle, we recommend an extra spin. Note that the protector can shrink by up to 8-10%.

The mattress protector should be air-dried and must not be tumble dried.

WASHING INSTRUCTIONS

The fitted sheet is durable and can be washed at 60 degrees. Since we have not used chemicals or synthetic fibers in the production of our sheet, we recommend that you use a gentle and chemical-free detergent for your sheet. This way, you ensure that your sheet remains organic. You can, for example, use our soapberries, which are a 100% natural detergent.

GET A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP WITH A KAPOK MATTRESS PAD

A kapok mattress pad is a great addition to any mattress - whether you have a foam, latex, or kapok mattress. If you tend to get too warm at night, it might be an idea not only to change your duvet but also to use a kapok mattress pad on top of your existing mattress. Foam and latex mattresses are not very breathable or good at temperature regulation, and therefore they can contribute to you getting too warm at night. MAINTENANCE OF YOUR KAPOK MATTRESS

As with all mattresses, it's a good idea to stand the mattress on its side occasionally to air it out. If you have a bed with a solid base, you should be particularly attentive to airing the mattress regularly. These bed bases make it harder to transport moisture away from the mattress. Kapok transports moisture and heat away from the child, but if the moisture cannot escape from the mattress base, it gets trapped between the mattress and the solid base. In the worst case, this can lead to mold spores forming under the mattress. Unfortunately, this can happen with any mattress. Therefore, air the mattress once a week or as needed.

Since a kapok mattress is hand-stuffed with loose natural fiber, it's important to maintain the mattress occasionally as needed (as you would with a futon mattress), by standing the mattress on its side and massaging/pressing the fiber from the edge towards the center, where the mattress is most stressed during use. If this is not done, the mattress can form a hollow where the kapok fiber is most compressed.

Organic Coconut Fiber with Natural Latex

One of the key ingredients in our PAPILIO mattress is the organic coconut fiber, which is used to add firmness to the mattress core. The coconut fibers are extracted through coconut production, washed and softened, then bound together into ropes that transform the fibers into small springs. The coconut fibers are then bound together with natural latex, forming springy core components that provide a firm and supportive base in the mattress. As the coconut fiber layer is composed of large fibers, the base contains many continuous air channels, giving the mattress base incredibly high breathability. The high breathability allows the body to release excess heat and moisture during a period when it struggles to self-regulate its body temperature.

The second key ingredient in the PAPILIO mattress is the 100% organic natural latex, used to create pressure relief in the mattress. Natural latex is known for its soft and comfortable body support as well as superior breathability. 100% natural latex is also naturally resistant to bacteria, mold, mildew, dust mites, and other allergens, and is naturally hypoallergenic. However, natural latex is not just natural latex. Often, natural latex is mixed with synthetic latex or fillers to create a cheaper mattress. Therefore, it has been incredibly important for us to create a natural latex that is certified organic. Our natural latex is therefore GOLS certified, which guarantees that the natural latex is free from artificial and harmful additives, and that the natural latex comes from organic latex plantations where it has been cultivated without the use of artificial fertilizers or pesticides. The cover around the mattress core is quilted with a layer of luxurious organic and untreated wool from New Zealand. The wool gives the mattress fantastic temperature-regulating properties, as the wool's air-filled fibers form a natural insulation under the body. The lanolin in the wool simultaneously ensures that excess heat and moisture are carried through the fiber and away from the body. The natural occurrence of lanolin also makes the wool resistant to dust mites, contributing to the mattress's hypoallergenic properties. The organic wool is also naturally flame retardant, so the mattress does not need to be added or treated with harmful flame retardants.
