These are three quite different natural materials, but they all share the qualities of being chemical-free, hypoallergenic, and breathable. It's important to choose a pillow that suits your child's age and size. Just as adults can vary greatly, so can children. A 3-year-old child is not necessarily the same size as the neighbor's 3-year-old. Therefore, it's not possible to make a one-size-fits-all recommendation for which pillow to choose for your child. Typically, you switch to a junior pillow at around 2 years old and use it until about school age. The pillow should be soft and comfortable for your child to rest their head on and support their neck and shoulders.

Breathability and temperature regulation are two very important factors to consider in your child's pillow. Synthetic fibers, down, and feathers are difficult to breathe in because they insulate so well that the child can easily sweat at night. Night sweats in children can disrupt sleep and create unrest for the whole family. Poor sleep quality in children significantly affects their well-being, so it's crucial to create a comfortable and safe sleeping environment for your child.

WHICH PILLOW SHOULD I CHOOSE FOR MY CHILD?

Choosing a good pillow is very individual. Parents often choose a pillow for their child based on what they themselves prefer to sleep with. Therefore, the best junior pillow for your child should be considered in light of your own preferences regarding materials, breathability, chemical-free properties, and allergy-friendliness.

A good pillow can work wonders for how well your child sleeps. Depending on the child's age, children's sleep needs can be up to 11 hours, so it's important that they receive optimal support and comfort. At night, the child produces the largest amount of growth hormone, so it's also at night that children grow the most.

JUNIOR PILLOW IN KAPOK

By choosing a junior pillow in kapok, you get an extremely breathable pillow made from 100% organic, plant-based materials. Our kapok is harvested from organic kapok trees growing in the wild. You thus receive a product that is completely untreated and pure, preserving all of nature's own properties. We use no pesticides or chemicals on our kapok. Therefore, a kapok pillow for children is one of the purest and most hypoallergenic choices you can make. The kapok fiber contains a natural bitter substance where dust mites, mold, and bacteria do not thrive, and they will therefore perish in the environment. For this reason, the material is very hypoallergenic to sleep with.

At the same time, the fiber consists of 80% hollow space, making it extremely breathable and temperature-regulating. A kapok pillow for children is therefore excellent for children who sweat at night, as it allows heat and sweat to be transported away from the pillow's fibers, so it doesn't feel wet and clammy to sleep on. This gives your child a more peaceful night's sleep without waking up due to sweat.

JUNIOR PILLOW IN MERINO WOOL

You might be familiar with the lovely feeling of dressing your child in wool clothing. The child will always be well-tempered and kept dry from sweat when wearing wool. You can enjoy the same great properties by choosing a wool junior pillow for your child.

Our junior pillows in wool are made from 100% organic merino wool, from sheep living in the mountains. The extremely variable weather conditions in the mountains cause the sheep to develop extra-long wool. We can card the long wool fibers into ultra-soft and airy Merino wool. The airiness in the fibers creates great breathability and the ability to regulate your child's body temperature so well.

The child will release a lot of body heat through the head, so it's important that the heat can escape from the pillow. Otherwise, the child will start to sweat, and the pillow will become wet. This can be very disruptive to sleep and lead to interrupted sleep, ultimately affecting the child's well-being.

JUNIOR PILLOW IN CORNFIBER

Choosing a junior pillow with our unique corn fiber filling gives you a pillow that feels like the fiber pillows you might already know. But the big difference is that our corn fibers are 100% biodegradable. They are made without the addition of harmful substances. Our corn pillows come from the residual material of corn production. We process the natural raw material into a soft fiber, but without using synthetic substances. And that makes all the difference between a synthetic fiber pillow and a natural fiber pillow.

DIMENSIONS OF JUNIOR PILLOW

In Denmark, a junior pillow measures 40x45cm, just like baby pillows, but has more filling and is therefore a bit higher. The baby pillow your child is now outgrowing is completely flat compared to a junior pillow. The advantage is that you can continue to use the same bedding for the junior pillow as you used on the baby pillow.

WHEN TO USE A JUNIOR PILLOW?

When your child turns 2 years old, they can start using a junior pillow. The child uses this pillow until about the age of 6. The recommendation is a rule of thumb, and you should always look at your child and assess when it's right for them to switch to a junior pillow.

The junior pillow should be soft and able to support the child's neck and shoulders throughout the night. Some children prefer to switch to a flat adult pillow at the age of 4 because it takes up a bit more space in the bed. So if the child moves a lot in their sleep, it can be nice that the pillow is a bit larger, providing more space to move around.

ALLERGY-FRIENDLY PILLOWS FOR CHILDREN

Developing allergies typically occurs through a combination of both genetics and environment. It can be inherited in our genes whether we are predisposed to developing allergies, but it can also be due to environmental influences. For example, if we are exposed to a particular allergen a lot, there is a greater risk of developing a real allergy to that substance. This could be dust mites in the home, perfume, dyes, etc.

By choosing an organic pillow for your child, you can reduce the risk of your child developing allergies because they simply do not contain the same harmful chemicals that can be allergenic for the child. At the same time, the chemical-free materials ensure that the child does not inhale harmful fumes from the pillow while sleeping.
