A good night's sleep is essential for our health, as most people know. Our kapok pillow is filled with 100% untreated and organic kapok and covered with a casing of certified organic cotton. No chemicals or synthetic materials are used during the cultivation or production of our kapok pillow. What makes our Cocoon kapok pillow special:

  • Temperature-regulating & moisture-wicking
  • 100% organic and chemical-free materials
  • Naturally hypoallergenic & dust mite-free
  • Vegan alternative

Why choose a kapok pillow?

Most people can relate to the experience of a feather or down pillow becoming very warm during the night. You get so warm that you need to flip the pillow during the night to get the cool side. This is because feathers and down are both fantastic at insulating. The good insulating ability provides a really nice feeling during the cold months when we want to retain as much warmth as possible. It's really nice until you've warmed the pillow and the duvet to body temperature. After this, the body needs to get rid of the excess heat and moisture. Unfortunately, this is where feathers and down often fall short. A kapok pillow is fantastic at regulating heat due to the lightness and structure of the kapok fiber, which allows heat and moisture to be transported away from the body. A kapok pillow is therefore especially suitable for you if you tend to feel too warm at night.

Kapok is a natural fiber that grows on the kapok tree Cebia pentandra in the tropical rainforests of southern and central America, India, and the western part of Africa. You can partially compare kapok to cotton, but kapok differs by being much airier than cotton. The kapok fiber contains 80% air and is thus 8 times lighter than cotton, making it the world's lightest natural fiber. The high air content in the kapok fiber is what makes it incredibly temperature-regulating and breathable.

When you sleep with a kapok pillow, you will experience that the pillow adapts to your body temperature. A kapok pillow is therefore one of the best things to sleep with if you have problems with night sweats or simply find a regular down pillow too warm and insulating. A kapok pillow also stands out by being water-repellent. The kapok fiber contains a natural layer of wax around each silky-soft fiber. This means that the kapok pillow will not absorb the moisture and sweat that the body emits during the night. Instead, the moisture is transported away from the body through the fiber's many airy cavities. You will therefore find that a kapok pillow remains wonderfully dry throughout the night.

What is a good pillow and which pillow is best?

It is impossible to point to the best pillow. It is very individual how we sleep and what we experience as a good pillow to lie on. That said, we can still point to one thing that generally applies to the best pillow: You should choose the pillow that suits you and your body, as this not only reduces the risk of waking up with neck pain, but also gives you a much better night's sleep because your body gets the optimal conditions to rest.

Common to the pillows you find here at Cocoon Company is that they are made from natural materials, do not contain harmful chemicals, and are made from materials that are breathable for the body to sleep on. No polyester or chemically filled materials are used, and overall, we believe that this is what creates the best pillows.

PILLOW SIZE

Pillows come in many different sizes, and it varies from country to country how big a pillow should be. In Denmark, the standard sizes for pillows are:

Baby pillow 40x45cm (flat)

Junior pillow 40x45cm (has more filling and is higher than baby pillows)

Adult pillow 60x63cm (available in different heights)

But in addition, there are countless other pillow sizes, and most importantly, you should choose a pillow that you can use with your bedding. It doesn't matter if the pillow is slightly smaller than the pillowcase. Our natural latex pillow, for example, measures 50x60cm and works very well with standard size adult bedding.

PILLOWS FOR CHILDREN

Our organic and chemical-free pillows are, of course, also available in both baby and junior sizes for the smallest members of the family. Newborns should not sleep with a pillow. The Health Authority recommends that a child gets a baby pillow at the earliest when they are 1 year old. If the child's motor development is a bit delayed, you may need to wait longer. Feel free to ask your health visitor for advice.

We make our baby pillows in various sizes, from the smallest 28x35cm baby pillow which is good for use in the pram, up to the more standard baby pillow of 40x45cm and even baby pillow in 40x60cm. Keep an eye on the size of your baby's bedding and choose the pillow that fits the dimensions.

When the child is about 2-3 years old and starts sleeping more on their side, many children like to have a junior pillow to sleep on. It is important that the pillow is not too high and too hard. It should support the child's neck when they sleep on it. Imagine that there should be a straight line through the child's spine and neck. If the pillow is too high, there will be a kink in the child's neck.

HYPOALLERGENIC PILLOW

If you want an asthma and hypoallergenic pillow, you can freely choose from our 5 series of hypoallergenic pillows. Our filling materials all have a lot of wonderful properties from nature, and common to them all is that they are hypoallergenic. Kapok, for example, contains a natural bitter substance in the fibers, which means that dust mites, mold, and bacteria do not thrive in the material. Merino wool contains lanolin, which is naturally antibacterial. Likewise, silk is recognized for being particularly hypoallergenic due to the natural antibacterial environment in the silk.

All the natural, anti-allergic properties you find in our materials are topped with the advantage that they also do not contain synthetic or chemical-laden substances and gases. Harmful ingredients that can contribute to causing both skin irritation, allergies, and asthma.

PILLOWS AT A GOOD PRICE

With us, good quality, a good price, and a good night's sleep go hand in hand. We have a reasonable pricing of all our products, and you do not pay more for the product than it is actually worth. This also means that we do NOT price our products unnaturally high, only to give an extremely high discount, which we unfortunately see all too often in our industry. We set the right price for our pillows from the start and therefore do not need to make artificially high sales on our products to sell them to you at the right price.

You can therefore safely buy our pillows at the price you find here on the site. These are high-quality pillows made from the purest materials on the market, at the very best price.

WASHING PILLOWS

It varies a bit how you should wash your pillow, depending on what filling material is in your pillow. Therefore, it is important that you always follow the information provided under the specific pillow you have purchased.

Several of our pillows have a zipper so that the exclusive filling material can be removed from the pillow while the cover is washed. In this way, your pillow will last much longer, as not all filling materials are equally easy to dry again, and they can even be damaged by getting wet, so that the pillow never feels the same again after washing.

Our recommendation is therefore to proceed with caution before throwing your pillow in the washing machine.

It is a good idea to regularly shake your pillow outside and let it air out. This removes any dust from the pillow's cover and helps ensure that the filling material remains airy.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU CHANGE YOUR PILLOW?

As a rule of thumb, you should change your pillow every two years. But the way we wear out our pillow varies greatly depending on how we sleep. Some people move around a lot in their sleep and hug, press, and move the pillow around. Some drool or sweat a lot in their sleep, all of which contribute to wearing out the pillow's filling. While others lie more or less completely still when they sleep.

These different scenarios all contribute to wearing out your pillow and can affect when it needs to be replaced. Therefore, keep an eye on your pillow. Check it when you change your bedding. Feel if the filling still feels as it should and if it still has the firmness and fullness you want.

If the pillow shows no signs of wear and is otherwise still nice and full, you can certainly use your pillow for a longer time.

Kapok Pillow

Kapok pillows are an excellent choice for those seeking a pillow with a light and airy filling, but it is also a slightly firmer pillow. It is filled with 100% natural and organic kapok, which is a vegan and hypoallergenic natural material. The kapok fibers have a unique breathability that ensures a dry and comfortable night's sleep. The material contains natural bitter substances that dust mites will not live in, making the pillow particularly suitable for people with allergies. Kapok is also a material that is less harmful to nature, as it is harvested without the use of chemicals, and Cocoon Company's kapok fiber is not harvested from plantations, so our kapok products do not contribute to deforestation.

Merino Wool Pillow

Our merino wool pillows combine comfort and functionality. Merino wool is known for its temperature-regulating properties, ensuring an even and comfortable sleeping temperature throughout the night. The wool is naturally hypoallergenic and antibacterial, making the pillow ideal for people with allergies and ensuring that you don't have to wash the pillow often to keep it clean. This pillow provides a soft yet supportive feel and is a great choice for those who want nightly support without compromising on comfort.

Organic Silk Pillow

Our organic silk pillow combines luxury and firm comfort. The silk pillow is naturally hypoallergenic and produced without harming the silkworms. The light and breathable feel make the silk pillow perfect for a cool and relaxing night's sleep. However, silk in large quantities becomes a heavy and firm pillow, so we mix a little kapok in the filling to give a slightly more airy feel, but the silk pillow is a firm and heavy pillow.

Natural Latex Pillow

The natural latex pillow is designed to provide optimal support and comfort. It is filled with pure natural latex without the use of synthetic materials or chemicals and mixed with untreated wool. The elastic properties of latex support the head well, while the wool provides a fantastic breathable and temperature-regulating feel. This pillow is hypoallergenic and designed to be gentle on both you and nature, making it an ideal choice for those who want a firm yet flexible pillow completely free of synthetic or chemically filled materials. This pillow is a natural and good alternative to most memory foam pillows.

Cornfiber Pillow

Cornfiber pillows are a natural and vegan alternative to traditional down pillows. They are made from plant-based corn fibers and provide a soft and light support that closely resembles the same feel as down. The cornfiber material is more gentle on nature, as it has the lowest CO2 footprint of any man-made fiber and can also be completely biologically degraded, leaving nothing in nature. The pillow is warm and easy to maintain, making it ideal for the whole family. If you are looking for a practical and comfortable pillow that also considers the environment, the cornfiber pillow is the obvious choice.
