Kapok mattress toppers

Breathability
A kapok mattress topper gives you a maximally breathable, temperature-regulating, and moisture-wicking mattress topper.

A cooling mattress topper with kapok filling is therefore the perfect choice for you if you feel hot and sweat at night.

All too often, we experience that the importance of sleeping on a breathable surface is overlooked. When we sleep, it is important that the body can get rid of excess heat, and if the body becomes moist with sweat, the sweat must also be transported away from the surroundings.

Feel
A kapok mattress topper belongs among the firmer mattress toppers. A kapok mattress topper works well on a slightly softer bed because the kapok as a material will continue the effect from the surface it lies on.

Right when you receive your kapok mattress topper, it feels a bit extra firm. This is because the material settles a bit and becomes softer after a while when you have slept on it. It becomes flatter and smoother because the kapok tubes even out. You could say that a kapok mattress topper needs to be worked in a bit, and it can be a good idea to turn and rotate the mattress from time to time when you change bedding. This helps to spread the fibers evenly.

Material
Kapok is a 100% natural, untreated plant fiber. It is harvested from the tall kapok trees in the forests around the equator, where they grow wild in nature. The airy natural fiber consists of 80% hollow space, making it incredibly breathable and temperature-regulating.

Additionally, the kapok fiber contains a natural bitter substance that makes dust mites, mold, and bacteria not thrive. Kapok is therefore hypoallergenic and 100% free from artificial additives and chemicals.

A mattress topper with kapok filling is suitable for vegans, as no animal substances are used.

We harvest our kapok in the wild, let it dry in the sun, and then fill it into our mattress toppers and other lovely kapok products.

The mattress toppers are filled in an outer cover of a strong fabric in 100% organic, GOTS certified cotton.

Wool mattress toppers

Breathability
A mattress topper filled with our organic merino wool gives you a sleep experience in a class of its own. Wool is naturally very breathable and temperature-regulating because it needs to keep the sheep warm and dry in all kinds of weather. The wool therefore contains a substance, lanolin, which creates a water-repellent film around the fibers. This helps moisture and sweat to be directed away from the surface, so you don't wake up wet with sweat.

Feel
The wool mattress topper will add softness to your bed. They can be used on all types of base mattresses. But the harder a base mattress you have, the more you should consider how soft a mattress topper you need. We fill our mattress toppers with plenty of wool, so they have a firm surface without unevenness for you to lie on. Any unevenness will also even out over time.

Many mistakenly believe that a wool mattress topper is a winter product. But in fact, the wool mattress toppers are excellent all year round. Even for you who often sweat and feel hot at night, a wool mattress topper will feel fantastic to sleep on, even in summer.

Material
Wool is a really comfortable material to have on the body, whether as clothing or in your sleeping environment. You will never sweat or freeze when you sleep in wool.

Our wool comes from merino sheep living in the mountains. This is because these sheep produce longer wool due to the cold air in the mountains. When we use the long wool fibers, we get a softer and more airy wool for our mattress toppers.

We only use wool from free-range sheep, where there is a strong focus on animal welfare. The sheep are sheared properly and are not subjected to mulesing.

Natural latex mattress toppers

Breathability
Our natural latex mattress toppers stand out by being more breathable than other foam mattress toppers on the market.

In particular, we have created a natural latex mattress topper with a wool layer between the latex core and the outer cover. The wool helps to give the mattress topper extra airiness and breathability.

The mattress toppers are handmade in pure, natural materials. You get a product of absolute top quality, created to last for many years and give you good sleep night after night.

Feel
Mattress toppers in natural latex have a fantastic bouncy effect and are the most pressure-relieving of our mattress toppers. It gives your body many support points during sleep and helps you lie ergonomically correct and relieving for your back, hips, and shoulders when you sleep.

A mattress topper in our natural latex is therefore really good for you if you have problems with a bad back. If you often sleep on your side, your shoulders and hips are more exposed, and therefore latex is more gentle. If you have pain in your back, bones, and joints, you might consider a softer mattress topper, as it will feel more gentle on your body.

Natural latex is a bit softer to lie on than our kapok and wool mattress toppers. But if you choose the model with wool around the latex core, it becomes firmer.

The mattress toppers in natural latex are a bit warmer to lie on than, for example, our kapok. But if you choose the model where the latex core is wrapped in a layer of organic merino wool, it gives you the temperature-regulating and breathable properties of the wool, along with the pressure-relieving feel of the latex core.

Material
Our natural latex is 100% organic, pure, and natural. We do not add any synthetic latex or filler materials. You get the pure product all the way through. It is important when buying products in natural latex that you are aware that unfortunately, they can be filled with synthetic substances and artificial filler materials to make the mattresses cheaper.

Of course, we do not do that at Cocoon Company. The latex we use in our mattresses is certified organic (GOLS) and comes from organic latex trees in India. Here, the latex is produced entirely without the use of either artificial fertilizers or pesticides.

We tap the natural rubber milk from the organic rubber trees, then pour it into molds and bake it into our lovely mattress cores.

It is quite important for us to tell you that our natural latex is truly 100% natural. There is (yet) no legislation in the area, and therefore it is actually allowed to mix synthetic and natural latex but still call it natural and organic. Which it unfortunately is not when it is mixed with synthetic latex.

The big difference between synthetic and natural latex is that synthetic latex accumulates a lot of volatile gases in the latex's air holes. When you sleep on the mattress and your body warms the material and compresses it, the mattress topper will release these harmful gases into the air you breathe when you sleep.

When we call our latex natural latex, it is because it is 100% natural. We add nothing to our raw material. It is the pure product all the way through.

Cocoon natural latex mattress toppers are hypoallergenic by nature because latex is resistant to dust mites, bacteria, mold, mildew, and other allergens.

The latex core is available both with and without a layer of organic, untreated wool from New Zealand. The wool contributes to the mattress's comfort by being temperature-regulating and moisture-repellent. Sweat and heat are transported through the mattress topper and away from your body. These are 2 important properties that increase your comfort when you sleep on the mattress.

Wool contains a natural layer of lanolin around the wool fibers. The lanolin makes the wool resistant to dust mites, bacteria, and mold. Natural latex is naturally antibacterial. Our natural latex mattress toppers are therefore hypoallergenic, whether you choose the model with or without wool.

On the outside, you will find a cover around the mattress topper in a strongly woven organic GOTS certified cotton.

When you receive your kapok mattress topper, it is intentionally a bit shorter than your mattress at first. This is because the mattress topper straightens out and becomes longer after you have slept on it for a while.

How thick should a mattress topper be?

A mattress topper should be significantly thicker than your mattress pad that is placed on top of the mattress. The mattress topper has a completely different role to play for your sleep. Mattress toppers should therefore be between 5-10 cm in thickness to give you a good effect of the topper's breathable, temperature-regulating, and pressure-relieving properties.

How long does a mattress topper last?

To extend the lifespan of your mattress topper, there are some things you can do to take good care of it. It is important that you always follow our guidelines for washing and caring for your Cocoon Company product.

Sweat, movement during sleep, body weight, and maintenance are all factors that affect how long your mattress topper lasts.

To protect the mattress topper and make washing easier, you can purchase one of our lovely kapok mattress pads, which provide increased sleep comfort and are easier to wash than the mattress topper.

How do I wash a mattress topper?

Our natural mattress toppers cannot be washed in the washing machine but can be spot cleaned with a damp cloth if needed. However, do not soak the filling material, as it can be damaged and difficult to dry again.

Instead, use our kapok mattress pads over the mattress topper, which are much easier to wash in the machine. If there are small children in the bed, our breathable mattress protectors are recommended.

Additionally, we recommend that you take the mattress topper outside a few times a year and give it a good beating. Mattress toppers in wool and kapok can benefit from being "massaged" from the edges towards the center when you change bedding. This way, you avoid the filling moving towards the edges and away from the center where you most often lie over time.

Also, make sure your mattress gets air when you get up. Lay the duvet aside and make sure the bed gets air to cool down before you make the bed again.
